Goooood evening, residents of Johto. It's a lovely, drizzly January day, and I've got a question you folks might be able to answer for me. Consider it an informal poll.

[York looks comfortable and cozy as he lounges around his house, still wearing his ugly Christmas sweater.]

Now, I understand that this place just isn't equipped to support a Grifball League, but there's got to be more to life than just hockey and baseball. Are there Pokémon Olympics or something I should tune into? And, hey, what kind of sports did you guys have back in your worlds? Were they fun? Would you recreate 'em here if you could?

[He rubs his chin for a moment, then adds:]

If anyone around Goldenrod's interested in forming some kind of low-key community sports team--y'know, something for people, not Pokémon--let me know. I might be able to help us get something set up before baseball season starts.

Well, now I'm impressed — most people would've put Holmes first. Sam Spade shows a refined taste.

But then, I'm also a Bogart fan.

To be honest, Sam Spade just had the kind of noir-type name I was looking for, and then I couldn't think of another example. Good movie, though. I always had a thing for the classics.

Yeah, we're working on something for both people and Pokemon, but nothing's gonna replicate pro-bending. It's too bad, I haven't played in a long time.

I know what you mean. I toyed with figuring out how to import one of the newer sports from my time, but I don't think it woulda worked out in the end.

I'm kidding, though. The UNSC - that's Space Command, not Security Council - is Earth's military and exploration agency. For the past twenty-something years our main concern's been the coalition of genocidal aliens looking to wipe humanity off the face of the universe.

Well, it doesn't have to be schools. As long as we manage to rustle up two or more teams and find a place to hold the race, we can work something out. It could be Goldenrod versus...I don't know where most other people end up. Olivine, maybe? Or even Johto versus Kanto.

Sure, probably. The universe is a pretty big place. But, given my line of work, I never really interfaced with any of those, you know?

Sure! Each participant can have one Pokémon to help them around obstacles. And then the hosts could use their Pokémon to make the obstacles in the first place. It'd be wild.

That's all right, man. It's just fun to actually get to admit it out loud for once. We always had to keep inter-agent fraternization hush-hush, you know? Which is its own kind of fun, believe me, but, well. Change is good.

Anyway, I probably wouldn't've heard about the Project if I hadn't met her, so. The rest is history.
