Immediately after the funeral, there's a thing called shiva. For seven days, the closest kin hole up in the deceased's home and don't leave, and their friends and family come to support them and let them talk if they want and bring food so they don't have to worry about that kind of thing. ...They rip a black ribbon, too, before the funeral, and wear it throughout those seven days to mark themselves as mourners. The restrictions get lighter for a while until the thirtieth day after the funeral, then they're over and mourners rejoin society completely. I guess the important thing during all of this, though, is the prayer. The Mourner's Kaddish. Really observant Jews, they'd say it three times a day.
