Okay. Okay.

[York's voice is the soft but urgent hiss of someone who's freaking out but doesn't want to alarm the people around him. The sound quality, for those sensitive to that sort of thing, indicates that he may have, you know. Locked himself in the bathroom. As one does.]

Can I lodge a complaint? I dunno who to, exactly, but I'da hoped this would be the kind of thing that got covered in the rookie's field manual as early as possible.

[He pauses.]

Turning into a werewolf, I mean.

[The pause is practically italicized. Whatever's happening to York, he is strenuously unhappy about it, and the tension rides his voice hard.]

Like, the fact that that's apparently a real possibility in this universe.

Well....everybody who's changed somehow was also attacked by a weird Pokemon over the last few days, so...

[It seems pretty obvious to her that there's a connection.]

[October, huh? That's useful information, and some part of him files it neatly away for later, but first:]

[Carolina is going to laugh. He knows she is.]

Somebody mentioned that they were hybrids, the Pokémon. I don't know enough about 'em to judge, but I wonder if that has something to do with it.

...Sim whats? Pretty sure Teams Aqua and Magma are just a bunch of asshole thugs.

Teams...oh. Oh, yeah, I heard of them. The cartoon villains, right?

[He'd heard something about them after his first post, anyway.]

Come to think of it, this situation stinks of someone's Saturday morning plot. Transformations, goofy hybrids...You think one of those teams might have something to do with it?

Wouldn't put it past Team Rocket, at least. The other two seemed more interested in flooding or scorching things than experimentation like this looks like.

Dunno if even Team Rocket would do something this bad, though.

[He sighs and rubs at his now-furry face.]

A lot of people are reporting a connection between those hybrid Pokémon and the transformations in us humans. At the very least, we oughta find some way to corral those poor dudes, if they're what's spreading it.

York, you're not turning into a werewolf.

[Because that's ridiculous!]

And even if you were, locking yourself in the bathroom is not going to fix. anything.

[He opens the door.

A tail, Carolina.

[Carolina has to slap her hand over her mouth.

He's vain, he's delicate, she can't do this to him oh god she can't laugh. Swallow hard, Carolina.]

Well.

[Carolina is looking a little strange too, though whether it's because of pure stubbornness or because she was bitten later her changes have progressed much less. Hidden past her hand, though, her teeth have begun to become much sharper and more canine, and her hair's paled to near white.]

It doesn't. Look.. too terrible.

[He looks like a furry]

[His expression gets even more sour. As if he doesn't know what he looks like. As if he didn't know exactly how she'd react.

The way his ears twitch flatter and his stupid little Yorkie tail sinks even lower doesn't help his image in the least, though.]

Gee, thanks, Carolina. You know how to make a guy feel pretty.

[But it's not like he's going to miss her hair. His scowl gentles into a more concerned and thoughtful frown.]

Hell. 'Z it happening to you, too?

[God, even his face moves like a puppy-- wait, no, that's just how York's always been. She sighs a little, hand still over her mouth.]

That's right. Apparently it's been happening to a lot of people.

[She has to look him over once more she's so sorry york]

But I'm not sure everyone got something as fitting as you did.

[this is totally serious business and she should totally be concerned but none of the reds and blues are here to witness her 'loosen up' so it's ~fine~ ok]

[Oh god that sure came out on a little puppy yipe. He plasters a furred hand over his own mouth, staring down at the floor as if it has personally betrayed him.

And then, without further speech, he steps back into the bathroom and starts to close the door again.

Yes. Good-bye. Farewell.]

[Carolina practically hiccups into her laughter, not at all prepared for that. She covers her mouth, keeping it as quiet as she can, and slams her other hand against the door.]

Nononono. No you don't.

[GOD DAMNIT YORK YOU WILL NOT DO THIS]

Carolina...!

[He pushes harder. His mortification only gives him strength! Except not really. His feet aren't getting much purchase on the bathroom tile, either, and a doggy whine starts to sneak out of his throat.]

North hasn't seen me yet, leave me some kind of dignity!

This isn't about dignity, York!

[She tries to wedge herself into the space between the door and its jamb.]

You can't just-- hide in the bathroom while everyone else finds a way to fix this!

[WHY ARE YOU BEING SUCH A BABY EVERYONE'S FURRY]

[SOME ARE FURRIER THAN OTHERS, CAROLINA. SOME ARE FURRIER THAN OTHERS.]

[...But he won't. He doesn't let up on the door, but he doesn't try to squish her in the jamb or anything, either.]

What are people doing? They got a plan?

I would know more if I wasn't spending my day trying to get you out of the bathroom.

[She tries to stare him down through the door gap, heaving a sigh that feels like a blow from a heater.]

The only thing I've figured out so far is that most of who I've talked to were attacked by a fused pokémon of the same species. Like the arcanine fusion we saw, and the... bat... dog.... you faced. Which means there's a probably a lot of people dealing with this right now.

[He's not convinced it's not a thing that gets done around here. Hasn't been since the Shedinja incident.]

Yeah, probably. I feel bad, 'cause I don't think they mean any harm, but...

[His fur twitches when the heat of her breath hits his skin, and he scrunches his eyes a little. That's weird. Everything about this is weird. His gaze shifts away for a moment.

A lot of people dealing with this. A lot of people that need help. She's asking him to be one of the good guys again.

It's been a while since that worked out for him.

York sighs in a much less fire-breathing way and eases back to let her in.]

Okay, okay. First priority, see if we can round up those poor messed-up Pokémon and stop this from getting any worse. Right?

Doesn't matter that much to the ones that get harmed, now, does it?

I get this place is big on being humane, so I'm sure someone'll come up with a way to pen 'em without hurting them. And at least some of us who've changed will have an easier time tracing them...

Me neither. I haven't been here that long, but everybody keeps saying this isn't normal. Not the violent Pokemon that look like a little kid designed them, anyway, I guess swarms are normal...

[She steps inside and gives him that look, that look that kind of feels like when someone says, "that's my boy". That proud and satisfied look that almost, almost seems smug, but just so happens to be sincere.]

That's right.

[She reaches up to check out some of the fur on his face, trying not to seem amused. And failing.]

Though I guess I could get you some more coverage before we head out.
