.001 Δ [Video/Action for Cherrygrove]
[The feed flips on to show a man holding a brush in one hand and a young Shinx in his lap. Both of them appear to have been freshly bathed, with the damp Shinx swaddled in one of Cherrygrove Inn's warm, fluffy towels. When all of her wriggling and protesting comes to naught, she just lies there in her towel burrito and seethes. York, on the other hand, has found that shops in this world do, apparently, sell hair product for humans, and he couldn't be happier. He's fixed his hair for the first time in days. Life is wonderful.
Not that vanity's necessarily the reason he hasn't introduced himself to the PokéConnect community at large yet. It's just. You know. Coincidence.]
Good morning, people. And Pokémon, too, of course, can't forget you guys. For those of you I haven't spoken to yet, I'm York, I'm one of your more recent unwitting transplants to sunny Johto. Or, well, partially cloudy Johto, anyway. How about that weather, huh?
[The temperature has dropped literally twenty degrees in the five days since he got here, oh my god, why. Being caught out on the road in yesterday's rainstorm sucked. Now he's warm and dry and comfortable in a clean shirt a couple sizes too big for him (and he's not exactly a small man). Really, what could be better than being alive here and now?
He rubs the Shinx's fur drier, unwraps her, and then holds her still before she can escape so he can brush the tangles out. She mewls fussily, but his hands are steady, and eventually she relaxes--if mutinously--into the attention. He chuckles a little.]
But okay, I'm not actually here to make small talk. I got a question for you folks.
[He turns the PokéGear with the back of his brush to show another Pokémon, an Elgyem, bundled up in a blanket on the bed, fast asleep.]
Can someone tell me more about Psychic Pokémon? [He goes back to brushing.] I get that they read minds--Delta Two there communicates with me all the time--but she doesn't use words so it's hard to get more...complicated ideas across, sometimes. I was wondering, can you train them to talk? Or do other things? These guys are obviously a lot more intelligent than the animals back on my Earth, so I guess you could say I'm curious about what they can do.
[The Shinx's eyes are half-closed now as York brushes away. Someone's a sleepy baby.]
'Preciate your time. Over and out.
((Action also available for Cherrygrove, where he can be found at the inn or browsing the PokéMart stock.))

action ;;
Lockon's fine. Stratos is a little too official for me. Especially here. [ Says someone who could totally go by his real name if he wanted. ]
I was passing through to stock up on supplies before heading to the Inn to change my clothes. [ The creature in his arms makes an odd chirrup of a sound, prompting him to look down. ] York, this is Agnes! [ Despite the introduction, the Espurr just continues to look like nothing more than a stuffed animal who happens to be breathing. ]
... I think she's shy?
action ;;
[...
Right, well, okay, that sure is. Some kind of creature. A little Shinx at York's feet eyes Agnes warily, but York just looks up again.]
How was your trip over? Man, did you run into that storm?
action ;;
It was easy! Pretty too. I can't remember the last time I took a walk like that... We wound up getting stuck in the storm and Stormer didn't want to get into her ball. I don't want to find out whether her mane and tail go out, ya know.
[ He lifts his shoulders and then drops them with a sigh. ] Did you make it here in time to miss most of it, or did you get caught in all of it like I did?
action ;;
[He groans it, but he's laughing, too.]
We were almost here, but of course by the time we made the city limits, the rain was already tapering off. Carolina was carrying her poor dog in her jacket by the end there, he really didn't like all that water. Guess he's a Fire type like--Stormer, is it? Good name.
action ;;
[ He cocks an eyebrow and jerks his head door-ward. ]
Stormer's right, yeah. She's hopefully still outside. Wanna meet her?
action ;;
[The Shinx protests briefly as York scoops her up, but he's quickly learning not to give the little scrapper free rein among other Pokémon. Particularly other female Pokémon. The Rivalry is strong with this one.]
But yeah, a couple good friends from my old squad turned up pretty soon after I talked to you. Actually, one of them--North, he's the one I told you about, with the sniper rifles. Great guy, I should introduce you two.
action ;; SORRY I'M SO SLOW. WORK WAS A SHITSHOW LAST NIGHT.
Oh! We can track him down after we finish up! I'm very curious about him... [ He squints for a second in a half-hesitation before actually heading out the sliding doors. He has been pretty good with getting over the fact that an eye that was literally NOT REALLY WORKING ANYMORE kinda started working again. Depth perception has been kind of goofy still. Not that he wants anyone catching onto it. It is certainly easy to see in-person that he's having to take a moment before going through doors or finding things to directly walk to...
Nonetheless, they head out and sure enough his Ponyta is still grounded to where she had been asked to stay outside of the 'Mart. Her nose sweeps the ground and she pricks her ears with the pair of men make their exit. As she holds her head high again, it is made apparent that she isn't just your everyday plains Ponyta. Stormer looks a little more like a show-type with her tall frame, long back, thick neck, and rather well-defined head and facial features. Even in the daylight, the embers of her mane and tail lick at the air like the tongue of the Devil.
She would make a positively lovely riding mount even for someone of Lockon's height. ]
Here she is! I'm surprised she sat still for so long... Stormer, this is York. [ He makes a vague gesture to the other man and the horse cranes her neck to give the new fellow a sniff, followed by a low, bellowing SNOOORT!! ]
I'm... Not sure what that means. But what do you think?
[ Regardless of the snort, he scurries over to pet Stormer's neck. HE'S SO PROUD OF HER. ]
action ;; Shhh it's fine! I am never in a rush
Anyway: Pony.]
Man, she's beautiful.
[York waits out the sniffing and snorting with equanimity. Empress squirms some, but keeps her complaints to herself for once. Her eyes follow Stormer's flickering mane with fascination.]
I don't know a thing about horses, but she looks like a winner to me, dude.
action ;; ahh ok! i just hate leaving people waiting. <3
My brother and I used to bother the animals at the farms near our houses. We never had any "big" pets of our own. I'm playing it by ear. [ Agnes wriggles where she is kept to him under his other arm and drops to the ground with a deft thump. She gets up, stands, and just looks at York's shin. No harm done. ]
It's hard to do the whole animal-lover thing in my line of work. [ Lockon laments with a sigh and shrugs his shoulders. ] I grew up faster than I had to. I didn't have the time when I was a kid either.
action ;; As you can see, I am the one who leaves people waiting!
Yeah. I couldn't exactly keep pets where I last was, either.
[He carefully avoids asking about Lockon's past. Growing up too fast...York can make some guesses about what that might mean, but it's none of his business, and Lockon will talk about it if he wants to.]
And definitely not when I was running around in space. One soldier has even the possibility of allergies aboard a Light Frigate? Nobody gets to have any fun. One of our guys had to leave his cats behind, kept pictures of 'em in his locker.
